BioShock Poster Series
Objective
In this project, I was tasked to design and develop a series of 3 posters that represent two design movements and one custom movement of my own. The first two posters should highlight the characteristics of the art movement of my choice and include colour, typography, symbols, and other graphical element that fit the theme.
Programs: Illustrator, Photoshop, and Procreate
Sketches
When I was looking to start the project, I dug around for inspiration. I looked through images of different art movements, steampunk, and Bioshock. I planned out and made a creative brief and mood board based on these inspirations. My intent was for these to give me the direction my project would be going in. I also did some comprehensive research on different types of art movements. Once I had my research, I narrowed down the choices for which art movements I wanted to focus on. The ones I chose were: Art Deco and Art Nouveau. After this, I did some sketches for the format I wanted to make using Procreate. I struggled on what the poses the characters would be and what the format of the posters would be since I wanted viewers to clearly know this is a poster series.
Digital Renditions
Once I was happy with my sketches, I then made digital renditions of my poster ideas in Illustrator.
- Big Daddy Poster: I used a lot of patterns and rigid geometry, along with the simplified version of the character, "big daddy" from the game.
- Little Sisters Poster: the main subject matter, the little sisters, is inspired by Art Nouveau as we emphasis on the female form, asymmetrical layout, and choose a hand drawn type design.
- Rapture City Poster: I choose to just have a simpler with a mix of some parts of Art Deco in the final design.
